bmi is the UK’s second largest full service airline and has its main operational base at London Heathrow where it holds 14% of all take off and landing slots. The airline operates over 2,000 flights a week with a fleet of 41 jet aircraft which have an average age of five years. bmi serves 28 destinations in 10 countries and in 2002 carried over seven and a half million passengers. Through its membership of Star Alliance, a grouping of 16 airlines offering seamless travel worldwide, it is also able to offer an international network reaching all areas of the globe.

bmi’s success at providing quality products and services has been recognised with the airline receiving over 50 industry awards since 1990. The awards include: twelve times consecutive winner of Best UK Domestic Airline (Travel Weekly), Short Haul Business Airline (Business Travel World), Best Short Haul Airline (Business Traveller) and Best UK Domestic Airline, Business (Conde Nast Traveller Readers Award).
More recently the airline received a maximum five star rating (*****) in the May 2002 edition of Business Traveller magazine for its Manchester to Washington services.
